A printed design lasts a long time if you treat it right. Most fading and cracking comes from heat and friction, so the goal is to keep both low.
Before the first wash
Turn the shirt inside out. This protects the print from rubbing against other clothes, zippers and the drum of the machine.
Washing
- Use cold or warm water, not hot.
- Choose a gentle or normal cycle and wash with similar colors.
- Use a mild detergent and skip bleach and fabric softener, which can break down the print.
Drying
Hang dry or tumble dry on low. High heat is the main reason prints crack. If you use a dryer, take the shirt out while it is still slightly damp.
Ironing
Iron inside out on low heat and never iron directly on the design. For embossed or puff designs, skip the iron and hang the shirt to let creases fall out.
Storing
Fold rather than hang heavier styles like hoodies and sweatshirts, so they keep their shape.
